Impossible to eradicate, thriving everywhere from lawns to mountaintops, Taraxacum officinale — Dandelion — may be the most universally available medicinal plant on Earth. And yet its 'weed' reputation belies a botanical of extraordinary depth: every part of it is edible, every part is medicinal, and its bright yellow flowers have been used for food, wine, medicine, and magic in virtually every culture that has encountered it. Its name comes from the French 'dent de lion' — lion's tooth — for the jagged shape of its leaves.

Dandelion Leaf is one of the most nutritive herbs available — a rich source of vitamins A, C, and K, along with iron, calcium, potassium, and B vitamins — and one of the most effective gentle diuretics in herbalism. Unlike pharmaceutical diuretics, which deplete potassium, dandelion leaf naturally replaces the potassium lost through increased urination, making it remarkably safe for extended use. Its bitter compounds support healthy liver and gallbladder function, stimulate bile production, and gently improve digestion. Dandelion leaf is used for kidney support, urinary tract health, fluid retention, and as a spring blood purifier across European, Chinese, and Indigenous American herbal traditions. Modern research has explored its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and prebiotic properties. In folk magic, the dandelion is a plant of wishes, communication with spirits, and divination — its seed heads blown to carry wishes to the spirit world, and its flowers used to call loved ones and promote healing.

For a deep liver-kidney-blood tonic blend, pair Dandelion Leaf with our Burdock — a perfect companion blood purifier and liver herb — our Nettle Leaf for its mineral-rich nutritive complement, and our Yellow Dock Root for liver-stimulating and iron-supporting synergy.

Dandelion is generally very safe — it is a food plant consumed worldwide. Those with gallstones or bile duct obstruction should use with caution, as its bile-stimulating action may cause discomfort. Those on diuretic medications should monitor electrolyte levels. Those with latex sensitivity may occasionally react to dandelion's latex-containing sap. As always, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medications.

* Potassium-rich gentle diuretic — supports kidney health without depleting electrolytes
* Nutritive powerhouse: vitamins A, C, K, iron, calcium, and B vitamins
* Supports healthy liver and gallbladder function and bile production
* Gentle blood purifier used across European, Chinese, and Indigenous American traditions
* Prebiotic and anti-inflammatory compounds support a healthy gut microbiome
* Used in folk magic for wishes, spirit communication, and healing rituals

1. Measure 1–2 teaspoons of Dandelion Leaf per 8 oz of water.
2. Pour boiling water over the leaf, cover, and steep for 10–15 minutes.
3. Strain and drink warm.
4. Drink 1–3 cups daily as a nutritive tonic, liver support, or gentle kidney-cleansing tea.
5. Dandelion leaf has a pleasantly bitter flavor — honey or lemon softens it. Fresh dandelion greens from untreated lawns are also excellent added to salads.

For a spring detox and liver-cleansing blend, combine Dandelion Leaf with Burdock Root and Nettle Leaf in equal parts. This classic depurative trio supports liver function, blood purification, and mineral replenishment.
