Grown at elevations of 6,000–10,000 feet in the misty, cool Himalayan foothills of West Bengal, India, Camellia sinensis — Darjeeling Tea — is often called the 'Champagne of teas,' a designation that reflects both its terroir-driven complexity and its prestige as the most celebrated tea in the world. First cultivated by British planters in the 1840s, Darjeeling's distinctive muscatel (musky-sweet grape) flavor notes emerge from the same plant that produces all tea — but shaped by the unique altitude, temperature, and climate of the Himalayan foothills, and by the way the leaves are processed.

As a first or second flush Darjeeling, this tea offers a light to medium body with delicate floral and muscatel notes — a dramatically different experience from the robust character of Assam or Ceylon black tea. Nutritionally, Darjeeling delivers the full benefits of Camellia sinensis: L-theanine for calm, focused mental clarity; moderate caffeine for sustained energy; theaflavins and catechins for cardiovascular and antioxidant support; and fluoride for dental health. Its lighter oxidation compared to fully oxidized teas means it retains more catechins, bridging the health profiles of green and black tea. Tea has served as a daily meditation practice across Asian cultures — the Japanese tea ceremony, Chinese gong fu cha, and Tibetan butter tea all reflect the profound spiritual role of mindful tea preparation in quieting the mind and opening the heart.

For an elegant, floral, elevated tea experience, pair Darjeeling with our Rose Petals Organic for a classic, aromatic blending tradition (rose and Darjeeling is a time-honored pairing), our Lavender for a calming floral counterpoint, and our Hibiscus Flower for a tart, antioxidant-rich bloom that brightens the cup's color and flavor profile.

Darjeeling contains moderate caffeine — sensitive individuals, pregnant women, or those with caffeine-related conditions should limit intake. The tannins in Darjeeling can inhibit iron absorption from plant foods — those managing iron deficiency should drink tea between meals rather than with food. Avoid combining with MAOIs. As always, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medications.

* Exceptional Himalayan terroir — the 'Champagne of teas' with distinctive muscatel flavor
* L-theanine + moderate caffeine for calm, focused, sustained mental clarity
* Light oxidation preserves catechins bridging health benefits of green and black teas
* Cardiovascular and antioxidant support from theaflavins and polyphenols
* Fluoride content supports dental health
* Honored in Asian tea ceremony traditions as a vehicle for meditation and mindfulness

1. Measure 1–2 teaspoons of Darjeeling per 8 oz of water.
2. Heat water to 195–205°F (just below boiling — do not use fully boiling water).
3. Steep for 3–4 minutes. Longer steeping increases bitterness and astringency.
4. Strain and enjoy plain, or with a touch of honey. Milk is traditional but may mask Darjeeling's delicate muscatel notes.
5. Drink 1–4 cups daily.

For a floral afternoon blend, steep Darjeeling with a pinch of Rose Petals and a few Lavender flowers for 3 minutes. This produces an elegantly scented cup perfect for a mindful afternoon ritual.
