Cultivated for over 4,000 years across China, India, and the Mediterranean, Citrus sinensis β Orange Peel β was prized by Tang Dynasty physicians for its digestive and Qi-regulating properties and became a foundational ingredient in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (where dried orange peel is classified as βChen Pi,β a premier digestive tonic herb) and Ayurvedic formulas for warming and brightening the system.
Orange peel is traditionally valued for its ability to support healthy digestion, ease bloating and gas, and uplift mood through its bright, naturally occurring volatile oils. Rich in flavonoids β including hesperidin and naringenin β as well as vitamin C, it is a popular addition to immune-support blends and antioxidant formulas. In folk magic and spiritual practice across African diaspora, Hoodoo, and Latin American traditions, orange peel is strongly associated with abundance, joy, and solar energy β brewed, burned, or carried to attract prosperity and good fortune.
Orange peel blends beautifully with Ginger Root, Egyptian Chamomile, and Peppermint for a warming, aromatic digestive tea that brightens the spirit and soothes the stomach any time of day.
Orange peel is generally safe, though those with citrus allergies should exercise caution. Very high amounts may cause photosensitivity in some individuals. Those on statins or blood pressure medications should consult a practitioner before regular use. As always, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medications.
