Formed over millions of years from the weathering of volcanic ash in ancient sea beds, Bentonite Clay — named for Fort Benton, Wyoming, where large deposits were first commercially mined — has been used across civilizations from the Andes to the Himalayas as a healing, cleansing, and purifying agent. Indigenous peoples of North America used similar healing clays for both internal and external wellness long before Western science began studying the mineral's remarkable adsorptive properties.
Bentonite Clay carries a strong negative electromagnetic charge that attracts positively charged ions — including many environmental toxins, heavy metals, and microbial byproducts — and binds them for removal from the body. Taken internally as a short-term cleanse, it is traditionally used to support digestive detoxification, ease bloating and gas, and soothe an irritated gut lining. Applied externally, it acts as a powerful drawing agent in face masks, poultices, and detox baths — pulling impurities from the skin and leaving it feeling deeply clean. Many natural wellness practitioners incorporate bentonite as part of seasonal cleansing protocols, bowel detox programs, and parasite cleanses.
For a comprehensive gut-soothing and cleansing protocol, pair Bentonite Clay with our Slippery Elm Bark to coat and protect the gut lining, our Fennel Seed to ease digestive discomfort and bloating, and our Ginger Root to stimulate healthy gut motility.
Bentonite Clay must be taken with plenty of water to prevent constipation. Do not take within 2 hours of medications or supplements, as it may bind and reduce their absorption. Not recommended for long-term daily internal use — short cleanse periods of 1–2 weeks are typical. Not appropriate for individuals with bowel obstruction. As always, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medications.
