Sacred across the Pacific Islands for over 3,000 years — from Fiji and Tonga to Hawaii and Vanuatu — Piper methysticum, Kava Kava Root, is far more than an herbal remedy: it is a ceremonial plant that serves as the centerpiece of traditional Pacific Islander community ritual, used for welcoming visitors, resolving conflicts, marking rites of passage, and communing with ancestors and spirits.

Kava's active constituents — kavalactones — act directly on the limbic system to promote deep relaxation, ease anxiety, and support restful sleep without causing mental cloudiness or loss of clarity. Unlike pharmaceutical anxiolytics, traditional kava consumption is associated with sociability and a calm, lucid mental state — what Pacific Island cultures describe as a feeling of deep peace and clear-headed wellbeing. Kava is widely recognized by herbalists as one of the most effective botanical options for stress and anxiety support, and has been the subject of numerous clinical studies supporting its anxiolytic effects. The ceremonial context of kava — sharing a bowl communally, in a spirit of respect and reciprocity — is itself a profound dimension of its healing.

For a deeply calming evening formula, kava pairs naturally with our Passionflower, which adds GABA-supportive calming action that complements kava's kavalactone pathway, and Lemon Balm to ease nervous tension and lift the spirit. Adding Ginger Root counteracts kava's slight nausea potential in sensitive individuals and adds digestive support to the blend.

IMPORTANT: Kava should not be combined with alcohol, as this combination significantly increases the risk of liver toxicity. Avoid with prescription sedatives, anti-anxiety medications, and CNS depressants. Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Limit use to 3 months or less. Those with liver disease should avoid kava entirely. As always, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medications.

* Contains kavalactones that act on the limbic system for genuine, research-supported anxiety relief

* Traditionally used as a sacred ceremonial drink across Pacific Island cultures for 3,000+ years
* Supports restful sleep and healthy stress response
* Socially shared kava promotes a sense of community, peace, and interpersonal harmony
* One of the most clinically studied botanical options for anxiety and stress support

TRADITIONAL COLD-WATER PREPARATION (Most Effective Method):
1. Combine 2–4 tablespoons of Kava Kava Root with 8–12 oz cold water in a strainer bag or cheesecloth.
2. Knead and squeeze the root vigorously in the cold water for 5–10 minutes. The water will turn milky tan.
3. Strain completely, squeezing out all liquid.
4. Drink on an empty stomach for best effects.

NOTE: Kava is traditionally prepared with cold or lukewarm water — hot water degrades the kavalactones. The taste is earthy and slightly numbing on the tongue; this is normal and indicates quality kava.

Drink 1–2 servings in an evening setting. Do not combine with alcohol.
