With a recorded history spanning over 5,000 years, Lawsonia inermis — Henna — is one of humanity's oldest plant cosmetics, used for adornment, ceremony, and healing across North Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and the Horn of Africa, appearing in ancient Egyptian tombs, Indian wedding traditions, and Moroccan marriage rites alike.

Henna powder is produced from the dried leaves of the Lawsonia inermis shrub and derives its rich conditioning and coloring properties from lawsone, a natural red-orange dye molecule that binds to keratin in hair and skin. Traditionally used for hair care, henna coats and conditions each strand, adding body, reducing breakage, and imparting a range of warm tones depending on your natural hair color — from golden highlights to rich auburn and deep copper-red. Henna has also been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for its natural cooling, astringent, and antimicrobial properties. Deeply embedded in celebration — from mehndi wedding ceremonies in South Asia to festival body art across the African diaspora — henna carries centuries of sacred social and spiritual meaning as a symbol of joy, protection, and good fortune.

For rich, deep hair color blends, mix henna with our Hibiscus Flower to intensify red tones and add conditioning benefits, and Beet Root powder to deepen the auburn into a wine-red. Incorporating Lemon Peel into the mix aids lawsone release from the henna for a stronger, longer-lasting color result.

Henna is for external use only — do not ingest. Always perform a patch test 24–48 hours before full application, especially on sensitive skin. "Black henna" products containing PPD (paraphenylenediamine) are not natural henna and can cause severe allergic reactions — pure Lawsonia inermis should be green/brown in powder form. Individuals with G6PD deficiency should avoid henna. As always, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or have skin sensitivities.

* Pure Lawsonia inermis powder for natural hair coloring from golden highlights to deep auburn
* Deeply conditions hair by coating the cuticle — reduces breakage and adds body
* Natural antimicrobial and cooling properties used in traditional Ayurvedic hair care
* Chemical-free alternative to synthetic hair dyes — no PPD or peroxide
* Scalp-soothing and traditionally used to address dandruff and scalp irritation
* Rich in cultural tradition across South Asian, African, and Middle Eastern communities

FOR HAIR COLOR (Basic Method):
1. Combine 100g henna powder with enough warm water to make a thick, yogurt-like paste.
2. Add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to help release the dye. Let the paste sit covered for 6–12 hours.
3. Apply generously to clean, dry hair, covering all strands from root to tip.
4. Cover with a plastic cap and leave on for 2–4 hours (longer = deeper, more lasting color).
5. Rinse thoroughly with water only (no shampoo for 24 hours). Condition as desired.

FOR DEEPER COLOR: Mix with Hibiscus Flower powder and Beet Root powder before adding water.

FOR BODY ART: Mix to a thicker consistency and apply through a cone applicator.
