Graval Root

Prized by Indigenous peoples of Eastern North America for generations, Eutrochium purpureum — commonly known as Gravel Root or Queen of the Meadow — was one of the most widely used kidney and urinary herbs among the Ojibwe, Cherokee, and other woodland nations, and later became a staple of 19th-century Eclectic medicine for kidney and bladder support.

Gravel Root takes its common name from its traditional use in supporting the passage of urinary gravel and stones — a practice rooted in centuries of Native American and Eclectic medical tradition. Modern herbalists value gravel root for its affinity with the kidneys and urinary tract: it is traditionally used to support healthy urine flow, ease occasional kidney discomfort, and promote the natural cleansing of the renal system. 1. Measure 1–2 teaspoons of dried Graval Root per 8 oz cup.
2. Simmer (decoct) in water at a gentle boil for 15–20 minutes, covered.
3. Strain and allow to cool slightly before drinking.
4. Drink 1–2 cups daily for urinary support. Do not use continuously for more than 4–6 weeks without a break.
5. Blend with Nettle Leaf and Ginger Root for a complete kidney support tea.
